Alder

Alder is the van we did not have when families started writing to us. Two adults and three kids, standing up inside, in November. Diesel, and unapologetic about it.

Cove & Current · North Vancouver, British Columbia · May – October

What makes Alder different

  • Not our build — purchased as a completed conversion from a certified Canadian builder
  • Five travel seats with factory belts: the one you book with kids
  • Standing height inside, so no roof tent and no ladder
  • Diesel heater and a house battery bank, no Vehicle-to-Load
  • ≈ 2.74 m tall and ≈ 5.93 m long — over-height on BC Ferries, and near the over-length line

One thing we will not let be a surprise: Alder is not our conversion. We chose the chassis, we weighed the finished van, and we fit out the kit inside it — but the build is a certified builder’s, and the certification is theirs. That is a feature, not a caveat.

confirming Figures we are still putting in writing with the builder and Mercedes-Benz Canada or measuring on the first van off the truck. We publish estimates as estimates rather than rounding them into facts. The large vans are purchased as completed conversions from a certified Canadian builder, not built by us. Rows marked pending get filled in from the certification label and a weighbridge on delivery — the same way we do the electric three, and for the same reason: a rental van that is quietly overloaded is a van that stops being somebody’s holiday.

Sleeping

Four inside: a rear transverse bed and the dinette conversion, under a headliner you can stand up in. No roof tent, no ladder, and nothing to unfurl in the rain at 10 pm with a toddler awake.

Cooking

A galley you work in standing, with a two-burner hob, a fridge sized for five people’s food rather than two people’s snacks, and a wet bath that doubles as the shower on the days it matters.

Heat, power & range

Diesel heater that runs in the cold without touching a driving range, a lithium house bank and an inverter, and a 93 L tank good for roughly 700–800 km loaded. No Vehicle-to-Load; this is not that van.
